To caregivers, always remember that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your patients.

Taking care of a dependent loved one may entail lots of responsibilities and challenges to oneself. This will eventually cause stress that may take a toll on your physical and mental health if not given proper attention. So, make sure to constantly check yourselves for the following signs of caregiver stress:

    Right meditation is good for caregivers who are under constant stress. This will also give freedom to every caregiver to release their work tension because this breathing technique can be done anywhere at any time.

  2. Focus on what you are capable to do

    There’s no use stressing about things that you cannot control. Despite whatever condition your patient is in, recognize your efforts and believe that you are doing the best you can.

  3. Set goals

    Learn to organize your task and prioritize the ones that need immediate action. For bigger tasks, it is helpful to break them down into smaller steps to prevent getting overwhelmed.

  4. Seek social support

    There are caregiver support groups where you can meet people who share your struggles and relate with. Talking to these people can help relieve the negative feelings and gain companionship and advice from those who are experiencing the same. Besides this, you can also get in touch with your family or friends who can provide you close emotional support.

  5. Take care of your physical health

    It is important to maintain a balanced diet and stay active in order to continue to become a competent caregiver to your patients. Staying fit and well-rested will also help you become resilient to stress.

  6. Seek help

    Whenever your responsibilities are getting too much to handle, asking a family or friend to do tasks for you is valid.
